My Heart and Soul Kitty

Posted by JB Bean on

This is my baby girl, JellyBean.  She is my heart and soul kitty.  I adopted her as teeny kitten in August of 2000 and she was the runt of her litter.  She was always little her whole life.  I named her Sammie when I adopted her but since she remained so small her name morphed into JellyBean.  She will be 17 years old this May and we have been inseparable for almost 17 years.  She is still very active and keeps me up all night every night and spends all her days with me right by my side.  Her favorite thing to do is to deliver her toy mice to me from all over the house and sleep on my desk while I work.  She is still very busy to this day.   She has had health issues for some years already with tummy problems due to probable inflammatory bowel disease.  About 5 years ago she was diagnosed with a heart murmur, grade 2 or 3 on a scale of 0 to 6.  She is a very delicate petite sweet JellyBean.
We had to go to the vet yesterday because she has been drinking a ton of water.  I feared the worst but prayed for the best.  The vet said she looked good for an old girl though very thin but he thought she was quite perky which was good.  She was down to 6 lbs from her usual lifetime weight of 7 lbs.  Blood was drawn for a full panel of tests with results to come this morning.  I just got the call from the vet.  My worst fears were realized.  Her kidney levels show she is probably around only 25% left in kidney functions.  The vet said we can not predict how long she has left and it all depends how quickly the disease progresses.  He recommends another test and some special prescription food, but she is very finicky so I may have to keep feeding her what she likes.  I am also researching some additional things that could help keep her with me and comfortable for as long as possible.
My small business, JellyBean Publishing, was created last year and she is the CFO, Chief Feline Officer.  She will always be in charge of my company and in charge of my heart.   Crossing paws that JellyBean will be with me for a very long time to come.
She is after all my Heart and Soul kitty.

  • I am so sorry to hear this news about your precious JellyBean and hope with a different diet and perhaps daily sub q fluids, she will have many more years with you (years ago, my cat, Nikki, lived almost 2 years with daily fluids and my Mom’s cat, Asia, lived over 5 years with daily fluids)…Keeping you and your beautiful girl in my prayers (as well as for your darling Ginger Sprite to come home), sending love and big hugs for you all…J, Calle, Halle, Sukki, Mommy Cat

  • Heart and soul kitties are precious. Mine was called my little piece of heaven in a kitty suit.

Find a treatment you both can manage, and I hope she will be with you for a good long time. <3

  • Jelly Bean is so beautiful. I hope therapy such as subcutaneous hydration can give you both the long time together you deserve. Stay strong. ?
